The writer of Hebrews said:

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

For he who comes to God – to ask, to seek, or to knock according to Matthew 7:7– must believe that He is! That He is [what]?

  • He is one who answers prayers.
  • He is one that is unlimited in His resources.
  • He is one that is called “LOVE” and love gives…. etc.

When we come to Him (God), we must believe that He is the prayer answering God; we must believe that He is the willing God based on His nature as love; and we must believe that He is able to meet all our requests to Him.

You cannot separate your faith and your expectations from your prayers. Your faith and expectation will determine the potency of your prayer.

In another portion of scripture, Jesus homes in this same point:

“So, Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”” (Mark 11:22-26)

In this scripture, like in Hebrews 11:6, we see the combination of faith and prayer working together to produce results.

Jesus said: “whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”. It can’t be any clearer. Whatever things you ask [WHEN] and [NOT IF] you pray, BELIEVE that you have [RECEIVED] them. This is where your expectation after prayer becomes crucial.

If you truly believe that you receive what you have asked for in prayer, then your expectation will be high up there waiting for the last part of that statement: [AND YOU WILL HAVE THEM].

What is your expectation? Do you believe that you have what you have asked for in prayer?
