Everything in the kingdom of God is received as a gift. The breath in your nostrils is a gift. Jesus is a gift to the world (John 4:10). Salvation is a gift and not earned (Ephesians 2:8). Our beloved Holy Spirit is given as a gift (Acts 2:38) etc.

Whatever you ask in prayer, you receive as a gift and not as a reward. I have seen many Christians approach God in prayer seeking a reward; looking for justification for their good works and service; and acting as if God owes them something. That is not the right posture. You receive everything from God as a child would – a gift.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:7-12)

We observe from the verses above that:

  • Jesus gave certainty to those who will ask, seek, and knock. If anyone will dare ask, it will be given to them; if anyone dare seek, they will find; and whoever knocks, it will be opened.
  • Jesus made a categorical statement that every sane father will not answer their child’s request with evil i.e., stone instead of bread or serpent instead of fish therefore, get the God – our heavenly Father’s perspective to your prayers.
  • Jesus said: “if you know how to give good GIFTS to your children…” Your children especially minors depend on what you give, and you will give according to their needs, wants, and on special occasions.
  • Jesus used the word: “GIFT” intentionally because your Father in heaven is a gift-giver; a Blesser with gifts; and One with an abundant heart.

James said:

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” (James 1:17)

Father God has got gifts for you. Will you receive them like a child?
