What is the fear of the unknown and why does it have such an effect on us? One of the main reasons is that the fear of the unknown has its origin in our basic need for safety and security. Somehow, we have adopted the wrong idea that security equals comfort and predictability, and a lack of uncertainty. To achieve this, we try to control people and circumstances, which only leads to anxiety and increases fear.
This fear is also known as the fear of change, fear of the future, fear of the uncertain, or Xenophobia. It is commonly said within the English-speaking community that “the only thing that is certain in the future is change”. If that sentiment is true, those with the fear of the unknown will live a mediocre life or predictability, certainty, and familiarity.
As most fears are demonic, this is particularly so in nature when someone is in fear of what might happen; fear of what is not understood; fear of the unknown.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
This verse connotes that fear is a spirit but not from God. If it is not from God, then it is from the devil and, therefore, it should not rule over our lives. God definitely has not given us the spirit of fear. Rather, He has given us the spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind.
Everyone must assess their position in terms of what their fears are. If God did not give this fear to you and you are a Christian, then, where did you get it from?
The words of prophet Isaiah speak to the very root of this fear:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ “Behold, all those who were incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced; They shall be as nothing, and those who strive with you shall perish.” (Isaiah 41:10-11)
Take these words from prophet Isaiah, which was a personal word from the Lord to you. He said: “Fear not”! Why? “For God is with you and He will uphold you with His right hand”.
Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He knows your yesterday, today, and your tomorrow. Therefore, if He knows about your future, it is no longer unknown but safe in the hands of God, who will hold your hand through it all.
This is an awesome and great message. Lord I ask for grace to overcome fear.
Good morning Pastor, absolutely beautiful word from the throne of grace.
