As sons and daughters of God, we must guard our hearts by watching over what we allow our eyes to see and our ears to hear. You become what you believe. If you believe a lie, you become like the liar and the lie takes hold of your life. If you believe the truth and He that is Truth, you become like the truth.

Romans 6:16-17 illustrates this point:

“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.”

You become the subject of whoever you obey – truth or lie; sin leading to death or obedience leading to righteousness.

Eve was a classical example of believing a lie and becoming like the liar. She was made in the image and likeness of God i.e. she was already like God, but the liar came and told her a lie. What did he say:

“Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5).

What was the lie? – “you will be like God!”. She was already like God. She believed the liar and then took on the nature of the liar. It is the truth that would consistently set you free.

Beloved, I have seen many children of God believe lies that keeps them in bondage which is not the intent of their Father in heaven. You need to abide in the truth. A fish can be born in water but need to continually live-in water to sustain life. The same is true of you. You are born of the incorruptible word of God and you must continually abide in the word to sustain the God given life that you have.
